The selection and use of bone regeneration materials in the treatment of bone substance losses garner significant interest from research groups and specialists in oral surgery. The utilization of bone regeneration materials, such as bone grafts, synthetic bone substitutes, and composite biomaterials, has shown promising results in reconstructing bone defects, whether they are of traumatic, oncological, or degenerative origin. The selection of appropriate materials, the surgical techniques used, and the integration of these materials into current clinical practice are widely discussed in the specialized literature. The criteria for choosing regeneration materials consider the type and size of the defect, the patient's general condition, and the targeted functional objectives. The biocompatibility of materials, the rate of osseointegration, potential complications, and ways to prevent them influence the long-term success rate of implant-prosthetic therapy. Recent innovations and current trends in the field include the use of growth factors and stem cells to enhance the regeneration process. Clinical experiences and results from various studies highlight the current effectiveness and limitations of bone regeneration materials. The updated results of recent studies allow for improved clinical outcomes and promote an integrated approach in the treatment of bone substance losses.
