
Prof. Univ. Dr. Viorel Jinga is an eminent Romanian urologist and academic leader who currently serves as the Rector of the Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMFCD) in Bucharest. Widely recognized for his profound impact on healthcare education, medical management, and clinical practice, he has also been elected as a corresponding member of the prestigious Romanian Academy. Viorel Jinga graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at UMFCD in 1988. He solidified his clinical expertise by becoming a primary care urologist in 1998 and went on to earn his PhD in Medical Sciences in 2000. His core medical career is tied to the "Prof. Dr. Theodor Burghele" Clinical Hospital in Bucharest, where he treats complex urological conditions and mentors young medical professionals. Parallel to his medical practice, he climbed every rank of the academic ladder, achieving the title of University Professor in 2013. Over the years, he took on several administrative roles, including head of department, medical director, vice-dean, and pro-rector. Elected as Rector of UMFCD in 2020, his tenure focused on the university's digitalization, expanding scientific research, and advancing the Institute for Research-Development in Genomics. On the international stage, he is an active member of the European Association of Urology (EAU) and the International Society of Urology (SIU). In 2019, he was honored with the Medical Merit Order in the rank of Knight for his exceptional contributions to medical education and institutional management. He holds multiple Doctor Honoris Causa titles from national and international universities.
